Lo, there do I see my father.
Lo, there do I see my mother, my sisters and my brothers.
Lo, there do I see the line of my people back to the beginning.
Lo, they do call to me...

--from a Viking prayer, in the film, "The 13th Warrior"

This is the main page of the Pardue Duran Family Recollections site, dedicated to exploring American history by remembering and retelling the stories of our ancestors. I am still developing the content for this site; meantime, feel free to explore what's here.

Below are links that I have found helpful; the surname pages contain more detailed information on each particular branch of our families, who are of Scots, French, Shawnee, Filipino, Irish, German, Choctaw, Patawomeck, Spanish, and English heritage, primarily from the regions of Alabama, Mississippi, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Virginia, Kentucky, Georgia, North Carolina, Colorado, Utah, and California. As of December 2004, I am still researching the Suddath and Smith branches, which were located in the 1700-1800's in Mississippi, Alabama, South Carolina, and Virginia, and the Pardue family, of Alabama and Mississippi. Pages are updated as often as I can find, scan, enter, and upload family documents. All documents are reproduced as originally written, with my notations in red type.

Online, one may find a wide range of source materials regarding this period of American History, through Documenting the American South, and 19th Century US History Digital Library, or the 19th century resource list from the New Hampshire Public Television. Other online narratives presenting different personal perspectives of this period in US history include Hannah Valentine and Lethe Jackson: Slave letters; Civil War Women: diaries, letters, manuscripts; and "a documented life."

Please send an email if you would like further information, if you have something to share, or if you would like to be notified when particular pages are updated. Valid copies of vital records reproduced here may be obtained from the particular courthouse in which they were recorded. Please be aware that all other text and photos are copyrighted; if you wish to reproduce a particular image or text for non-profit, research, or other use, please send me an email, stating the image or text that you request and your intended use of it.

Thank you for visiting, and please enjoy the site!
